Testimonial

"Corporate location and site selection is a delicate matter, with many different criteria shaping a rationale outcome. Surprisingly, still many location decisions are based on perceptions and images.

LocationSelector supports the decision making process in a much more transparent and fact based way. A powerful tool which I would recommend to anyone dealing with this difficult topic."

FDI Potential of Goldman Sachs "Next Eleven"

Goldman Sachs’ Next Eleven have great potential for attracting portfolio investments through Goldman’s Sachs new investment fund. In this competitiveness report ICA, through its proprietary software Locationselector.com, aims to show the potential these countries have for attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Based on ICA’s competitiveness benchmark of the Next Eleven we would like to highlight a few observations:

  • ·         Countries with the potential to belong to the world’s largest economies are not directly associated with a business climate that is ready to host FDI.
  • ·         Although some of the N-11 economies will grow with double digits in terms of population growth rates, domestic consumption and exports -making them very attractive to develop as consumer markets, their FDI readiness is low.
  • ·         Next Eleven countries appropriate for portfolio investments are not necessarily ready to host FDI.
  • ·         Companies planning FDI in Next Eleven countries need to carefully analyze the strengths and weaknesses of their business climate.
  • ·         Korea not only has a great potential to become part of the world’s largest economies. Among the next eleven countries it also has an attractive business environment that is most conducive to Foreign Investments. This places South Korea in a unique position to optimally develop its domestic consumer market, educated labor force and technology capacity by adopting foreign expertise and capital.
  • ·         In our ranking we find that the Philippines –considered a Newly Industrialized Country- have a relatively weak business climate for Foreign Investments, while Vietnam –considered a developing country- has an investment climate more conducive to FDI. The individual scores of the location criteria “Foreign Direct Investment” (Vietnam ranks 2nd while the Philippines rank 9th) and Business Environment (Vietnam ranks 4th and Philippines rank 11th) strengthens these findings.
  • ·         Bangladesh ranks 10th in the competitiveness report. Interestingly Bangladesh has the best score for its “macro economy”. 50% of the score for this location criterium consists of the GDP forecast by the WorldBank which states that until 2014 the average GDP growth of Bangladesh equals 7% annually. Finally, the relative score for “Macro Economy” Bangladesh also has a relative low inflation rate of 5,3%
