Piracy and Rampage Piracy in the Singapore Strait

Piracy on ships and piracy in the waters of the Singapore Strait is more than double that of two years ago.

According to the Regional Cooperation Agreement Information Center on the fight against piracy and armed pirates against ships in Asia or ReCAAP, the piracy of ships and piracy has doubled compared to the first semester of 2019.

In the first half of this year, there were 16 acts of piracy and armed piracy and 51 similar acts of the Asian region.

“The concern is about the continued increase in accidents in the Singapore Strait,” the information center said in a statement carried by News Asia on July 16, 2020.

Piracy and piracy took place along the shipping Strait of Singapore, in the east and west.

However, most of the acts of piracy and piracy took place in the eastern corridor, which are 13 measures. They mostly enter Indonesian waters.

“We recommend increased monitoring and patrolling in coastal countries,” said Masafumi Koroki, CEO of ReCAAP.

According to Coroy, piracy also occurred in the waters of countries around Singapore such as Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines and other Southeast Asian countries. Similar events also occurred in the waters of Bangladesh and India.

In Kuroki’s notes, piracy and piracy in the Singapore Strait increased in 2014 and 215. However, after one year, this procedure decreased significantly and this year again showed an increase.
